SMSgt Robert R Thompson, USAF(Ret) Crew Chief of
the "SAC HoBo" RB-50G
I
have the very sad opportunity to announce the
death of S/MSgt. Robert R. Thompson, who passed away on
November 6th, 2007 after a short illness associated with
a stroke. Bob was 86 years old at rhea time of his
death. Bob served in Fighting 55th Strategic Recon Wing
from it's inception to 1956. During that period Bob
maintained my RB-29 # 2285,during my first deployment to
the Far East, and the "SAC HOBO" RB-50G on
the deployments to Europe and the Far East. Bob flew on
several of our missions even though he was not required
to do so. As a consequence, he and the flight Engineer
were instrumental in saving a few missions from
potential aborts. His dedication to his duties and
loyalty to the flight, and maintenance crews
was outstanding, and will always be remembered.
......... I'd
appreciate this notice published under "TAPS" in any
way, shape or form you consider
appropriate....................PAPPY COLE.
