-Rob Simmon, Bob's oldest, here on Dad's e-mail account.
Just wanted you all to know that Dad passed away yesterday
morning in Jacksonville's hospital after battling for the
last two months with an aggressive cancer (multiple myeloma)
that moved to his bones. Please share with those who may
have known my father. Thanks!

ROBERT (BOB) EUGENE SIMMON, Lieutenant Colonel, USAF (Ret),
86, of Cabot, died April 21, in Jacksonville, Arkansas. He
was born September 9, 1921 in Marion, Indiana to the late
William and Nellie (Mader) Simmon. Bob was preceded in death
by his wife of 51 years Catherine (Lambert), his son Mark,
his brothers Donald, Howard, and Gene, his sister Margaret,
and his grandson Brian. He was a devoted husband and father
and will be missed by his family and many friends.
Colonel Simmon is survived by his three sons; Rob and his
wife Susan (Hunt) Simmon of Glenwood, Iowa, Rick and his
wife Lyndell (Smith) Simmon of Mary Esther, Florida, and Don
and his wife Sue (Mitchell) Simmon of Tipp City, Ohio; four
grandchildren, Tanya and her husband Steve Klingman of
Montgomery, Alabama, David and his wife Sarah Simmon of
Council Bluffs, Iowa, Richard and his wife Rajini Simmon of
Pensacola, Florida, and Keith Simmon of Salt Lake City,
Utah; two great-grandchildren, Everett Klingman and Ryan
Klingman.
Bob married Catherine Lambert of Belle Center, Ohio at
Deming, New Mexico, September 25, 1943 and was commissioned
in the Army Air Forces three months later. He flew 30 combat
missions in B-17s in WWII. His Air Force career spanned more
than forty years including time in B-29s, RB-47s, B-52s, and
B-58s. His decorations included the Meritorious Service
Medal, three Distinguished Flying Crosses, and five Air
Medals.
Funeral arrangements are by Moore’s Jacksonville Funeral
Home. They will be conducted at the Jacksonville Funeral
Home, Wednesday (April 23rd) at 3 p.m. Interment will be in
the Chapel Oaks Mausoleum, Chapel Hill Memorial Park,
Jacksonville, Arkansas. To sign the on-line guestbook,
