In Memory of
Gordon Rosevelt Molstad
August 6, 1918 - July 22, 2011
Gordon Rosevelt Molstad was born in Edmonton Alberta
Canada August 6, 1918. He attended school and
completed graduate courses after high school. As a
boy he was interested in music, art, and outdoor
activities. For several years during this period, he
worked on the family farm while attending high
school.
In 1939 war erupted between Germany and England.
Gordon chose to support the conflict by joining the
American army which he did on February 1941. He soon
was offered the opportunity to go to Officer
Candidate School and became a 2nd Lt; He was
released from the service in 1945 to return to
civilian life where he became involved in feeding
the workers at a local steel plant in Seattle,
Washington. Upon outbreak of hostilities in Korea he
was recalled to active duty and remained until
retirement in 1966.
In 1961, he married his loving wife Erna and
together they shared a military life until
retirement. Since they heard money grows on trees in
California, they came to Atwater and bought a small
almond farm. During the ensuing years he raised over
a million pounds.
Gordon was fond of the sea and for over thirty years
kept a yacht in Stockton where they enjoyed many
hours afloat. His other interests were in community
and social programs. He belonged to the Castle Air
Museum since inception, The Lions Club, Kiwanis
Club, Rotary Club, and Elks Lodge. He was the
organist for the Elks for over 25 years. He was also
a member of the Atwater Methodist Church.
Gordon is survived by his loving wife Erna; his son,
Jon Molstad of Yuma, Arizona; his daughter and
son-in-law, Donald and Catherine Sperry of Sequim,
WA; grandson, Steven DeLoach of Kirkland, WA;
granddaughter, Crystal Thornton and her husband, Jay
Thornton and Rosemary and Madeline Thornton of
Seattle, WA. |
