Lt.
Col. Louis Blaylock Gillmour Jr.USAF-Ret, 85, Flower Mound, died on August 31, 2011 after complications of a fall. He was a descendant of two pioneer Dallas families, having been a great grandson of former County Judge James M. Patterson (mid-1800's) and a great nephew of ex-Mayor Louis Blaylock (early 1900's). LtCol Gillmour graduated from Sunset High School, '42, and received a BA degree from the University of Texas, Austin; and a MBA from the University of Dallas, Irving. While serving in the Air Force, he was awarded the Air Medal with Oak Leaf clusters for sustained bombardment and interdiction of Chinese Communist forces along the Yalu River in North Korea, 1951. During the Cuban Missile Crisis, 1962, his B52 wing received an Outstanding Unit Award for its role in airborne nuclear alert operations over the Arctic ice cap along the northern perimeter of the Soviet Union. The Bronze Star was awarded to him in 1968 for aerial support of 2500 beleaguered U.S. Marines during the siege of their outpost at Khe Sahn, Vietnam. He received the Meritorious Service Medal as a staff planner for Linebacker II, the Christmas-period mass bombing raids by B-52's over Hanoi and Haiphong in 1972. LtCol Gillmour is survived by his wife of 32 years, Yu Suk, two daughters, Kami Bryant and Lance of Los Angeles, CA; Lu Ellen Tilton and Daniel of Bow Lake NH, 3 granddaughters, Camille, Kendra and Carrie. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, and The Retired Officers Association of Greater Dallas, as well as the Alumni Association of the University of Dallas. Graveside service with military honors will be at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery, Dallas on Friday at 11:30AM.
