Richard C. Gilgut

   GILGUT-Richard C., age 72, of Ocean Park, Kennebunkport, ME and formerly of Omaha, NE, died on Monday October 6, 2008 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough. He was born in Waltham, MA on September 4, 1936, a son of Dr. Constantine and Minnie Gilgut. He earned a degree in political science at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst where he played varsity lacrosse under Dick Garber. He later earned a master's degree at the University of Southern California. After college, Richard joined the Air Force where he worked in military intelligence as an electronic warfare officer and reconnaissance expert primarily stationed at Strategic Air Command Headquarters in Bellevue, NE. He was a decorated military veteran who earned a number of medals including The Distinguished Flying Cross. Mr. Gilgut retired in 1986 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and then worked for Ford Motor Credit for several years. Richard enjoyed watching the Red Sox and playing chess. He loved to read and had a great passion for history. Richard was an active member of the Ocean Park Association and served as Grand Marshal of the Ocean Park Fourth of July Parade. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Survived by wife Dorothy (Known as Dody) (Farr) Gilgut of Kennebunkport and Ocean Park; son R. Carl Gilgut of Burlington, VT; daughter Amy Stephenson and husband Scott, Marshfield, MA; 1 sister, Patricia Johnson, Atlanta, GA; 2 grandchildren, Rae and Minnie Stephenson; many nieces and nephews.
