Subj: Jean Caselton - Wife of Paul
Hi Max,
My mother, Jean, passed away this past Sunday, November 6.
Sam Goeden recommended I sent Mom's obituary to you for posting in
TAPS on the 55th web site.
Shirley Jean Caselton, 82, of
Carrollton died on Sunday Nov. 6, 2011 at Heritage Health in
Springfield. Born in Livingston on Dec. 6, 1928, she was the
daughter of the late John Stewart and Nancy May (Sawyer) Alfeld. She

death on July 20, 1974. Surviving are a daughter: Sue Caselton of
Dallas, TX, three sons: William (Mary Jo) Caselton of Glasgow,
Scotland, Paul Caselton of Springfield, and James Caselton of
Bloomington, 4 grandchildren: Rachel, Jennifer, Jessica and Michael
Caselton. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a
sister: Norma Greaves and three brothers: William, Jack and Joseph
Alfeld. Jean was a graduate of Illinois Wesleyan College, a member
of the Carrollton United Methodist Church, the Greene County
Historical and Genealogical Society and the Greene County Farm
Bureau. She occasionally played organ at the church. Jean loved her
family, golf and her breakfasts at the Wagon Wheel Restaurant in
Carrollton with friends. Visitation will be from 3-7 P.M. on Friday
Nov. 11 at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton. Funeral
services will be held on Saturday Nov. 12 at 11:00 A.M. at the
Carrollton United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Carrollton
City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society
or the Carrollton United Methodist Church. Condolences may be left
online at: www.airsman-hires.com.
If you'd like to include something about Dad, since he's been gone
so long a lot of folks didn't know him, here's my list as best as I
can remember (or was allowed to know at the time):
---WWII Bombadier, stationed in England
---55th Navigator from 1954-1962 (Dick Campbell's crew the first few
years).
---Office Boy navigator, Eilson AFB 1962-1965
---SR71 mission planning, Beale AFB 1965-1967
---Pentagon 1967-1972 - staff stuff, some SR71 involvement
---Patch Barracks (USEUCOM headquarters) 1972-1974 - Military
Assistance Directorate (and then something else I can't remember)
If you have any questions, please let me know.
Best regards,
Sue Caselton
ps: Without my mother, I doubt that I'll be attending any more
reunions. I've certainly enjoyed them over the years and will miss
them.
