Dear Mary and Joe,

I don't like to send sad news, but Rusty passed away this afternoon.  He has been in and out of the hosp. and finally his lungs gave out and he died. I have concluded that there are things worse than death and believe me it is hard to see someone you love suffer the way he did, he was so miserable, and had everything you could think of wrong with him. God gave me a wonderful gift for 64 years and lots of people aren't that lucky.

I'm OK, I'm happy he is free of that miserable body that kept him from doing anything or even eating foods he had enjoyed. We're shooting for a memorial service on Frieday at 2:00.

Well old dears I will close and tackle the rest of these E-mails.

Howard (Rusty) Rust was a good friend and fellow RB-47H pilot for a number of years.  He was there when I arrived in 1959, and I think he may have stayed there until the end of the RB-47 era (1967?).  Jim Taylor would probably know.
