Subject: 55th Wing B'Day Ball and Tales
To all hands:
The eighth edition of the"Tales of the 55th" will be held on Friday 30 March at the Offutt Patriot Club (formerly the Officers Club). The doors open at 1500 so there will be an hour and a half of socializing, camaraderie and time to view memorabilia before the program begins at 1630. Many out of towners in for the B'Day Ball attend, as well, so it is like a mini-reunion.
The creation of Robb Hoover, Assn Pres Jim Thomas is in his second year of organizing and emceeing the event. Tales will include stories and speakers about WWII, Cold War and more recent history of the Fightin' Fifty-Fifth.
It is informal, casual, flight suits/jackets. There will be eats and refreshments.
A $3 donation is requested at the door.
The event is tri-sponsored by the 55th Assn, Assn of Old Crows Strat Roost, and Order of Daedalians.
Invitations for the 55th Wing Birthday Ball have gone out, and admissions are for sale thru Wing reps. It is being held for the second year in a row the Omaha Qwest Center, Saturday, 31 March at 1800.
The event will be emceed by a non-military member for the first time. Dave Webber, sports personality from TV station WOWT in Omaha. He was once a member of the SAC Elite Guard and is well known and humorous.
The featured guest speaker is Tommy Lasorda, legendary manager of the LA Dodgers and good will ambassador for Major League Baseball. He has spoken at many military and veterans events and has patriotic fervor.
Cost is $35 per person. It is a mess dress/tux/dark business suit event for men; mess dress, fancy dress for women. It is the largest formal social gala the Wing holds each year.
It was begun by Regis Urschler when he was wing king in 1979.
If you get and invitation, please respond even if it is with 'regrets'.
If you did not get an invite but wish to attend, you can call 55th Wing Protocol at 294-5797 or 3845 and request one be sent to you. The more the merrier.
Usually 80-100 Assn members and guests attend, and are among the 700+ at the Ball each year.
Cut off for RSVPs and reservations is 16 March.
Hope to see many of you there.
Videmus Omnia,
