Subject: King Hawes Briefing

Former RC-135 "Rivet Ball" Raven Kingdon R. Hawes, Lt. Colonel, USAF (Ret.), visited the 45th Squadron (successor to King's 24th Strategic Reconnaissance Squadron) at Offutt AFB today to give a very informative briefing and movie presentation of some RC-135 history from the 1960s.

The subject of King's briefing and movie was the two sister missions of Rivet Ball and Rivet Amber. Rivet Ball, tail # 91491 was also known as "Nancy Rae" (1961-63), "Wanda Belle" (1963-66), and "Rivet Ball" (1966 -69), while Rivet Amber, tail# 62-4137 was "Lisa Ann".  These early RC-135 missions both ended in 1969 when Rivet Ball overran the runway at Shemya and was destroyed and Rivet Amber, a half year later was lost at sea.

45th Sq/CC Ken Bauer accepted a picture of Rivet Ball on behalf of the 45th Squadron.
