Dear Web Guy of the 55th,
With regret that I inform you of the death of my father, Joseph
F. Brittain, Major, USAF (ret.), in Springfield, MO, on 22 September
2007, after a brief illness. He flew with the 55th in the early
1950s as a navigator, I believe out of both Barksdale and Ramey, if
I have my history straight.
In his study hangs a large and nicely matted and framed picture,
approx 3' by 4', entitled '55th Wing Heroes'. . . showing in the
side panels the color likenesses of some of those who lost their
lives, with an eagle and color sketches of some of the aircraft in
the center panel.
We unfortunately do not have room for the picture and would like
to offer it to someone who will appreciate it properly. If you have
a way to let your members know the picture is available or have a
place suitable for its display, I would appreciate it.
