Thanks for this Regis.
I also saw Gene at Dayton. His legs and knees
were as bad as mine.
I flew a Det 4 tour with him in 58. Ellington CP
and McMahan Nav. As i recall Gene went to
missiles
(atlas) in early 60s and I ran into him in the
bar at Maxwell when I was attending C&S School
in 67/68.
Gene hit the nose wheel on almost all landing at
Brize. Then out came the brake shute, kabooom.
LOL.

Today I attended the luncheon meeting of the Geriatric Pilots Association. Standing in front of me was a visitor being introduced as having been a B-47 pilot. Of course, he was asked did he say P-47 or C-47. He responded that he said B-47. At the next chance to jump into the conversation, I pointed out that there were now two of us out of the entire membership of over two hundred that had B-47 experience. I proceeded to ask where he had been stationed, and he said Forbes as part of the 55th.
I asked if he knew Regis and he said that Regis had been his co-pilot. He went on to say that he was embarrassed to find out after he had met Regis at the Dayton reunion, that he was a retired B/G. I suggested that Regis probably took whatever he had said in stride. He also admitted knowing Jim Taylor, Bill Bowker, and George Danforth. The “admitted” was an attempt at humor, Jim. I thought it strange that he didn’t recall Johnny Drost as he said he didn’t transfer out of the 55th until ‘65.
Anyway, he’s going to join the Geriatric Pilots Association. He is also planning on attending the 55th reunion in DC as it will be a bit closer than San Diego or Omaha.
Hope you are enduring whatever weather you might be encountering. We’ve only had 7 inches of snow this season which is down from the average of over 25 inches. I may have to start to look for my snowblower. So far I have only shoveled once and that was only for practice, not necessity.
Dick.
