Earnest David "Dave" Johnson

Dave Johnson, age 65, realtor, web master and retired USAF Lt. Col. died at Baptist Hospital on Friday, August 11, 2006 of a heart attack.

He was born December 20, 1939, in Panama City, Florida, to Burl and Dorothy Johnson. He graduated from Bay High in 1957. On March 26, 1962, he was united in marriage to Sally Meredeth also of Panama City, Florida.

Dave faithfully and sacrificially served for 24 years (1960-1984) in the U.S. Air Force during the cold war and Vietnam era, stationed at several U.S. and over-seas locations as an Electronic Warfare Officer, among other duties.

During these years his union to Sally bore two children, Teresa and George, both of whom survive him today. Others surviving Dave are his mother, Dorothy; brother, Allen; wife, Sally and two grandchildren, Meredith and Levi.

In 1981 Dave and Sally joined the community of Navarre Beach, Florida. Dave skillfully chose a water front property on East Bay on a protected cove that to this day allows very little damage to their home during the all-to-frequent hurricanes and storms that pass through.

The acquisition of his own property must have inspired Dave to enter the real estate business, as he has spent the last 19 years in that trade. Doing so allowed Dave the flexibility to be active in promoting local commerce, natural resource conservancy, charity fund raising events and military activities.

Having many recreational interests kept David busy year-round. He was an avid marathon participant, artist, and enjoyed technology-based activities and past times including PC-based flight simulation (he'd tell us "it's not a game, it's a simulator"), GeoCaching, internet-based map reading, electronic weather monitoring, electronics graphics, web design and anything else a person can do with personal computers. He loved the outdoors, fishing, and enjoying the beauty of his natural surroundings, earning the unofficial nickname "nature boy" from his grandchildren.

Dave's sense of humor and playfulness was always evident as jokes were shared and pranks were played (he could take it as well as dish it out). He will be sorely missed by his family, friends and community.

Visitation will be held at Rose Lawn Funeral Home on 08/16/2006 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at Rose Lawn Funeral Home on 08/17/2006 at 10:00 a.m. Burial Service will be held at Barrances National Cemetery NAS Pensacola, Florida

Dave was a nature and bird advocate. At the family's request, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Francise M Weston Audubon Society in Dave's name .
