Subject: 55th SRWA Memorial

Background: A couple of weeks ago the Colorado Blue Spruce tree, a part of the memorial and planted a year after we installed the memorial, was noted as having a large number of dead branches throughout the vertical center.

I contacted the Gail at the Museum and she suggested I contact the nursery since we were within our two year guarantee. Larry Laflair and I were scheduled to meet with a nursery representative this morning to examine the tree. However, the rep called me early this morning to tell me there was no need to meet [in the rain] out there this morning as she had examined the tree over the weekend and intially determined it to have a progressive fungus, which attacks the older branches and not the new. While she has sent samples to the nursery's lab for confirmation, she said they would tentatively plan on replacing the tree next year for us and would notify the museum. She will also send me a letter when it is confirmed and I'll pass the letter on when I get it.

Since I didn't have to go out in the rain to the monument today I couldn't confirm if the Honor Roll correction had been made yet. Probably will go out in a day or so.
