Subject: AF Memorial dedication
Gents,
Stay tuned for the dates of the Memorial dedication in 2006. There will be an informal by invitation only dedication the third week in September when the AFA National Convention is in session. The formal dedication in October will be a very large affair with over 500,000 expected. Which one do you want to attend?
As for the thank you note, there are hundreds of thousands of contributors to this memorial and perhaps our thank you wasn't as personalized as we would have preferred, but I'm sure ours wasn't the only one.. However, not sure how many thank you letters anyone of us has written but when the magnitude of the job reaches the magnitude associated with this fundraising effort the job eventually becomes overwhelming and the notes rubber-stamped. I'm glad it wasn't my job! Perhaps I should feel that I shirked my responsibility by not sending individual thank you notes to all contributors to the 55th SRWA memorial, but I don't.
Our donation to the Air Force Memorial was made in good faith and for good reason. The 55th has made Air Force History throughout its long and honorable service in the defense of our liberty and freedom. It's only fitting that our name be emblazoned on the Air Force Memorial in perpetuity.
V.O.
Bill

By now, y'all probably have received the latest donation appeal from the AF Memorial Foundation (mine came just today).
It touts a ribbon cutting ceremony for October 2006, but no specific date. So, it is just as well we didn't decide to go to DC next Sept.
Mayhap if we do go in the spring of 2007, it will be completed and we can get a tour to see it.
You may remember that the Assn donated $1000 in early 2004 to the memorial fund. We did get a thank you letter, but the QC on it was pathetic. It looked like it had been outsourced to the same people who do those Nigerian scam e-mails.
VO, Max
