Subject: HOLES IN THE TAIL

I just found the book "Spyplane" by David Donald and to what do my wondering eyes behold? A lot of pictures of the one plane I was forbidden to take pictures of at RAF Mildenhall, the RC-135s of 55th SRW...I was a flightline cop of the 513th SPS stationed there from 85-88...I remember many of A/C #844, aka "Problem Child"s in-flight/ground emergencies...Man, that was one cursed bird! I remember after one landing, that the A/C got off, walked over to me standing in front of the ECP (entry control point) waited till his crew got on the green bus, and said "Here! Take the motherf**ker!", turned and spit in the general direction of the nose radome...Another A/C shocked one of the other guys on post by wearing a pair of non-regulation COWBOY boots prior to a flight! When he told me about, I could only think that maybe ITN/Channel 4 was re-running "Dr Strangelove" again...

I was also wondering if anyone had info on an in-flight-emergency that got towed to the south side of the base on or around "Operation El Dorado Canyon" (4-86) Apparently someone tangled with a fighter that put holes in the tail/ fuselage...We were forbidden to talk about it in the general public and when asked for an official explanation, our SP officers told us we were "cops, not intel weenies" and ordered to shut up about it...Now that maybe the heats of after almost 20 years, could someone tell me the story? Thanks, Tom Dyer (aka "T")
