306 Strat Wing

"306th Strat Wing"
"Hog Henge"

306th SW/DOR "HOG HENGE"
This is one of two 306 SW /DOR HOG HENGE patches known to exists. DOR stands for Deputy Commander of Operations for Reconnaissance. This second style patch shows the hog sitting in front of Stonehenge (maybe it had to many suds?) while on the first style patch the hog is sitting on top of Stonehenge. Embroidered in white on grey are 306 DOR on the vertical stones. RAF Mildenhall in the UK has long been a home to aircrafts from the 55th and due to the close proximity to Stonehenge, this location soon acquired the nickname of "Hog Henge". The 306th Strategic Wing was SAC's assets in the UK, coming under command of SAC's 7th Air Division, Ramstein AB, Germany. The 306th also managed the European Tanker Task Force and the OL-IC at Iceland. Information in part is courtesy of Major Greg Ogletree (USAF, Ret.) while the illustrated patch comes out of MSgt Andy Hunold's (GEAF, Ret.) personal collection.
