"Cobra Eye Optical Aeral Measurement Program"

24SRS/RS. OAMP stands for OPTICAL AERIAL MEASUREMENT PROGRAM and was placed on board a modified COBRA EYE (RC-135X) aircraft and carried joint ARMY / AIR FORCE "backender" crews. The lone RC-135X aircraft was placed in long-term storage on 22 March 1993 at E-Systems facilities, Greeneville, TX.

24 SRS COBRA BALL. 24 SRS / 6 SW/SRW, Shemya AFB, AK. The 24th SRS was at Eielson from 25 March 1967 - 31 March 1988 (under the 6th Strategic Wing) and from 1 April 1988 to 6 July 1992 under the 6 Strategic Reconnaissance Wing. On 7 July 1992, the 24 SRS was redesignated to 24 RS and realigned under the 55th Wing till it's inactivation on 30 June 1994. The unit flew RC-135S aircrafts which were modified under the BIG SAFARI Program and their task was to monitor Russian missile tests.
