Silver Dollar

"1st ACCS Operations Team One"

1st ACCS Operations Team 1 ("Silver Dollar")
Illustrated here is the Operation Team 1 patch of the first original NEACP, a special modified EC-135J which was codenamed SILVER DOLLAR (therefore the silver dollar in the center). That particular aircraft first flew on 1 March 1962 and a total of three were operated by the 1000th Airborne Command and Control Squadron, based at Andrews AFB, MD. On 1st July 1969, the 1st ACCS was activated to replace the 1000th ACCS. On 1 November 1975, the 1st ACCS was assigned to the 55th SRW while still being based at Andrews AFB, MD. The unit actually moved to Offut AFB on 1 July 1977. By mid-1975 the EC-135J was replaced by the first E-4A NEACP aircraft. Information covering the SILVER DOLLAR emblem are courtesy of Maj Greg Ogletree (USAF ret), 1st ACCS unit information have been taken from the AF Historical Research Center, Maxwell AFB web site while the illustrated patch again is courtesy of Andy Hunold's personal collection.
