38th RECONNAISSANCE SQUADRON
Shown here is the latest
style and version of the 38th RS patch featuring the original WWII "Flying
Tomahawks" design of the 38th Pursuit Squadron. This new design and shape was
personally mandated by the Air Force Chief of Staff, General McPeak, who
directed that all squadron emblems be disc-shaped and that unit had to readopt
the emblems originally used by the units. This particular example replaced the
38th SRS blue dragon's patch by 1994 and has till today at least been
manufactored in another style and variation. Information courtesy of Major Greg
Ogletree (USAF, Ret.) while the illustrated patch comes out of MSgt Andy
Hunold's (GEAF, Ret.) personal collection. If anybody might have any 38th SRS /
RS patches not featured or mentioned here, please contact Any Hunold as he would
be interested in obtaining, trading or purchasing any of those patches for his
own personal collection. In particular he is looking for a 38 SRS Training
Flight / Instructor patch, a SAC Kennel Club 38 SRS Chapter patch, a 38th name
tag style patch with "It's easier to apologize than to get permission RC-135" or
any other 38th patches not mentioned here. Thank you!
