"343rd SRS"
"Opus Patch"
343rd SRS Opus
shows the 343rd SRS Opus patch. According
to Major Ogletree's article, this cartoon character was appropriated by the unit
because penguins can't fly (the "Ravens" are no pilots and rely on the pilots to
take them where they need to go). The suspension from the trapeze wires is
intended to illustrate that the unit can only fly "with a little help from their
friends". This patch is a Far East (Korean) made patch and dates back prior to
the unit being redesignated as "RS". (Source: Major Ogletree's article ASMIC
TRADING POST Spring 1995). Patch is from MSgt Andy Hunold's collection.
