"763rd EXPEDITIONARY RECONNAISSANCE SQUADRON"
763rd EXPEDITIONARY RECONNAISSANCE SQUADRON
very similar
in design to the 4407th RS is the patch of the 763rd RS, just that the RC-135 is
now flying from left to right instead. Instead of the green colored eyes, the
RC-135 now has dark blue colored eyes and in addition to the OF tail code one
can see the US flag on the tail as well. The Saudi Arabian palm tree is gone,
the crossed swords are larger and a standing lion has been added to the patch.
Additionally, the unit designation has been relocated to the top tab while
DESERT WING now has been added on a bottom tab, making this patch also larger in
size than the 4407th patch. This patch comes in two variation, one sand (desert
tan) colored like show and one bright colored patch with a yellow (!)
background. Due to ongoing operations within the theater, the location and other
unit information are currently being withheld. Again, the patch has been
provided to us from Andy Hunold's personal collection.

"4407th RS"
"Desert Wind"
4407th RECONNAISSANCE SQUADRON
The 4407th flew out of
Riyadh, Saudi-Arabia and was recently redesignated to 763rd Expeditionary
Reconnaissance Squadron when the AEF concept was phased it. The 4407th RS
emblems shows an RC-135 with Arabian headdress and a determined looking
expression flying out of a magic lamp. On the tail one can read the OF tail
code. The letters DESERT WIND are a reference to the BURNING WIND operations
usually flown by RC-135s. The first patches where theater made and of crude
embroidery while this example is made in Taiwan and features a very fine
embroidery. Information courtesy of Major Greg Ogletree (USAF, Ret.) while the
illustrated patch comes out of MSgt Andy Hunold's (GEAF, Ret.) personal
collection. Any reader who might possibly have a 4407th RS (P) Operation
Southern Watch patch available for sale or trade is kindly requested to contact
Andy Hunold! Thanks!
