55th srw Latin

"55th SRW"

55th STRATEGIC RECONNAISSANCE WING (Latin motto)
Shown is one of the earliest examples of the patch used by the 55th Strategic Reconnaissance Wing. The patch carries the Latin motto instead of the unit designation and is also fully embroidered of heavy quality. The Latin motto VIDEMUS OMNIA translates into WE SEE ALL (since I started patch collection I wished I'd studied Latin in school....). According to Major Greg Ogletree's Trading Post article from Spring 1995, the green, black and red are the colors approved for the tactical squadrons of the wing, the globe depicts worldwide capability and the jagged forks of lightning and the jagged chain encircling the globe signifies radio and radar capability. The camera is self-explanatory in depicting photographic capabilities. On the very early style patches, the letters SAC were spelled out in morse code. Information again has been taken from Major Greg Ogletree's ASMIC Trading Post article while the illustrated patch comes out of MSgt Andreas Hunold's (GEAF Ret) personal cloth patch collection.

Patch and information submitted by Andy Hunold, MSgt (GEAF) Ret.
