Crew R-28 in 1962

This photo was taken at Incirlik AB in December 1962. From L-R: AC, Maj. Roby M..(Eat-Me) Craft; CP, Cpt. Phillip C. Carbaugh; Nav, Cpt. Gilbert A. (The-Greek) Agronis; EWO-1, Cpt. Ralph E. (The-Wreck) Cofield; EWO-2, Cpt. William B. Watkins, Sr. Plane referred to as Tell-Two aircraft.

We pulled 10 day alert cycles on this TDY. 10 Days primary Alert where we had to be airborne in 15 minutes. 10 days secondary Alert where we had the run of the base but went to primary status when the primary crew launched. Then 10 Days off where we could roam across non-communist Europe with secret orders that got us first priority on any military transport. But we had to be prepared to buy a commercial ticket to get back to Incirlik on time. What a great way to see Europe, except for one drawback; NO FAMILY with you.
