Life Membership – Charles Waters

Subsequent to the awarding of Life Memberships (LM) in the 55th SRW Association at the September 2006 Reunion Board of Directors meeting, Errol Hoberman put forth the nomination of Charles Waters for LM in accordance with the Association Bylaw 7.4 stating, “Life Membership is granted by the BoD to individuals who have made very special contributions in service or otherwise to the Association. No dues required.”

            Waters was a member of the original ad hoc committee to study reforming the Association from an informal group to a more structured organization. He spearheaded the framing of Articles of Incorporation and bylaws, and was interim president until the first formal election of a board of directors under those rules. His leadership was directly responsible for helping to hold the Association together during a significant transition period.

He also chaired the reunion at Ft Walton Beach, FL, in Sept 1995, at which the membership formally accepted and approved the reorganization under the new Articles and bylaws.

President Jim Thomas accepted the nomination in January 2007, presented it to the Board of Directors for approval via e-mail on 28 January 2007. In e-mail responses through 30 January, 18 Board members concurred (two had not responded, Waters was obviously abstained); thus Pres Thomas declared the action as approved.
